SUN2VOC Version 1.0 -- Kevin S. Bachus -- September 14, 1991.
SUN2VOC is a quick utility I pieced together based on a few uLaw to raw 8-bit
sample-conversion routines floating around the Internet, and my own
observations of the Sound Blaster .VOC format. With this program, you can take
any of the many audio files digitized on the Sun family of minicomputers and
workstations, and play them, without any additional modifications, on any PC
equipped with a Sound Blaster sound card.
Operation of the program is simple. Simply enter "SUN2VOC filename" where
<filename> is the name of the Sun audio (.au) file to be processed. The
extension is optional; if you do not enter one, SUN2VOC assumes .AU to be the
source extension. SUN2VOC will then create a destination file using the same
file name as the source, but with a .VOC extension. You can then use any VOC
player (Creative Labs' VPLAY or Gary Maddox's excellent BLASTER MASTER package,
for example) to hear the sound. I've tried to optimize the conversion routines
for both speed and size. The conversion should be quite fast on all but the
largest of files.
I regret that I am unable to acknowledge the authors of the original routines I
based this program on; none bothered to identify themselves in their code.
